STORY: German police said that at least three people died when a small plane crashed in Southern Hesse near Frankfurt on Wednesday evening.

The Cessna plane was on approach to the small airport in Egelsbach when it suddenly disappeared from the radar screen, said a police spokesperson in Offenbach.

The plane crashed near the auto highway 661 near Frankfurt and burst into flames.

A police spokesman in Offenbach, Henry Faltin, confirmed that three people had died.

It is be believed that there were two pilots and four passengers on the plane.

The police had no immediate information on the cause of the accident.
