INTERVIEW AND SESSION FILMED FOR BALCONY TV LONDON
PRESENTED BY IVAN BERRY
PRODUCED BY VIDEO-BOX
After meeting in 2004, West Walians Sarah Howells and Richard Llewellyn set up camp in Cardiff and started playing acoustic shows under the name Halflight. Numerous Barfly gigs, one Big Weekend slot and 3 EPs later, the pair were in need of a change and Paper Aeroplanes was born. Now spreading themselves between London and Cardiff, Paper Aeroplanes make melancholic-tinged folk pop centred around Sarah's distinctive vocals. Their debut album The Day we ran into the Sea was released in March this year, with a sold-out launch show at Chapter Arts Centre and Radio Wales giving their full support. Adam Walton, Radio Wales called it "the finest radio album to come out of Wales since Rockferry"
Record of the day: "a confident collection of commercial pop gems"
After early spot plays and a successful Bob Harris session on Radio 2, Paper Aeroplanes' third single, Not as Old, has recently been added to the Radio 2 playlist. Written and produced with Matt Prime (Will Young, Eliza Doolittle, Natalie Imbruglia).
With the album recently being licensed to OK! Good Records (part of huge 90's dance success, Radikal) in Germany, Canada and US, the future is very promising for West Wales' Paper Aeroplanes.
