Cairo, Egypt

A tear gas canister - fired by police - lands in a crowd of protesters.

Defiantly, one demonstrator picks it up and hurls it back.

Battles like this flared in the Egyptian capital on Sunday amid mounting anger with country's interim military government.

At least 12 people have died in four days of clashes across the country.

The violence was triggered by the deaths of 74 people in a soccer stadium on Wednesday in the city of Port Said.

Protesters - many angered with the slow pace of reform here and deteriorating security situation - have blamed security forces for the deaths.

Egypt's military rulers - who have run the country for the last year - have promised to hand over a power to an elected government by the end of June.
