A Paris museum will display a miniature manuscript written by British author Charlotte Bronte when she was 14 years old. It's said that Charlotte wrote the booklet in very tiny handwriting for her toy soldiers to read.
A museum in Paris unveiled a manuscript written by the British author Charlotte Bronte on Monday, after paying U.S. $1.1 million at an auction in December for the artifact.
The 1830 booklet,which will be on exhibition at Le Musee des Lettres et Manuscrits from Tuesday, has been the cause of a dispute between Britain and France.
The Bronte Parsonage Museum in the family's former home in northern England lost out in its bid to buy the writing.
Sotheby's, which auctioned the mini-magazine as part of its English literature sale in London, called it: "the most important Bronte manuscript to have appeared at public auction in more than 30 years."
[Gerard Lheritier, President, Musee des Lettres et Manuscrits]:
"...The father gave the sisters ten miniature wooden soldiers, and he said that Charlotte wrote in very small, fine handwriting, so that her soldiers could read from the book."
The booklet by the author of the 19th century classic "Jane Eyre" contains more than 4 thousand words in miniature letters on 19 pages, which measure less than 1.5 by 2.5 inches.
Bronte wrote the manuscript when she was 14 years old and living with her family at Haworth in Yorkshire.
It was one of six hand-written "Young Men's Magazines" she created at that time.
