Israel's parliament interrupted its summer recess to debate the recent wave of social justice protests over high living costs. During the Knesset session scores of protesters attempted to break into the building but were held back by Knesset Guards. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was not present at the session, but Opposition leader Tzipi Livni criticized the government's policies. Israelis have turned this summer into a summer of hope she said praising the protesters, but accused Netanyahu's government of foot-dragging. On Monday Netanyahu described the situation as turbulent. Talking to members of a Knesset finance panel he said the government intends to deal with lowering the cost of living and reducing gaps in the society. He promised that substantial changes would be made.
