Nir Barkat has not only captured the title of Jerusalem mayor, he also has a new city council that is not dominated by ultra orthodox parties. In a dramatic turnaround, the Jerusalem city council will be controlled by a secular and modern religious majority for the first time in years. While the realignment means that Barkat does not need orthodox parties in his city coalition, nevertheless, on Wednesday Barkat said he planned to invite the Haredi parties to join his broad-based coalition. 11/13/08
