Olmert Threatens To Fire Ministers Who Oppose 2009 Budget

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert expressed his fierce determination to get the 2009 budget passed at the start of Sunday's crucial cabinet meeting. Olmert told the cabinet meeting that at the end of the debate, there would be a vote and if the budget is passed, whoever doesn't accept the government's decision will not continue to serve as a cabinet minister. Olmert added that many minister's who oppose the budget, do so not because of the budget itself, but because of underlying political interests. According to recent reports, Shas is still planning to vote against the proposed budget, demanding an increase in child allowances, which is not included in the budget.
