Dr. Oliver Batson, MD is a practicing Medical Oncologist at The Everett Clinic.
In the past, it used to be necessary to go to Seattle for that kind of care, but now myself and other gynecologic oncologists in Everett, and they operate in Everett, and so coordinating the care of those patients has become much more streamlined, and patients can see stay close to home rather than going to Seattle.
Women with a gynecologic cancer, by the time they see me, they've often had surgery already. So, they're really looking at the question of chemotherapy. Their main question is, 'Am I going to be cured?' They want to know what the statistics are, and why they should go through that kind of therapy. It depends on the kind of cancer, but chemotherapy has been shown to improve the cure-rate or prolong survival, or even help with symptoms.
