A day after the Election Commission (EC) ordered the covering of statues of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and her party symbol, the elephant, draping has begun on the structures in various parts of the state. The EC's order is part of the model code of conduct that is in place after dates for the upcoming assembly polls were announced in December last year. Elections in UP are slated to begin on February 4 and will, over seven phases, wrap up on February 28.
