Gale force winds slam Britain. Winds of up to 90 miles-per-hour and heavy rain swept across the UK -- knocking out power as millions of Britons returned to work and school after the holidays.
Upended trees are causing havoc across the country.
Weather forecasters say this winter had been far stormier than recent winters, with two deep Atlantic depressions in December as well as the one to batter Britain Tuesday.
