Daniel Craig joined up with Rooney Mara at the world premiere of their latest movie, "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" in London on Monday (December 12).
It's the English language adaptation of Swedish author Stieg Larsson's book of the same name.
Directed by David Fincher, of "The Social Network" and"Fight Club" fame, "Dragon Tattoo" stars relative newcomer Mara as Lisbeth Salander, a strange young computer hacker with a twisted past who helps Craig's journalist character crack a case of a missing woman.
The movie is one of several Hollywood blockbusters kicking off the awards season. It has already been named one of the American Film Institute's (AFI) top ten films of the year.
But Craig said he's not giving the Oscars any thought.
SOUNDBITE: Daniel Craig, saying (English):
"You can't get your head around that sort of stuff. It just drives you a bit insane. So I don't really think about it very much."
Mara, who strikingly changed her girl-next-door appearance to play the pierced, tattooed and mohawked Salander, talked about the relatability of her character.
SOUNDBITE: Rooney Mara, saying (English):
"I think that everyone can relate to that feeling of being misunderstood or outcast. Everyone at some point in their life can relate to people who are in a position of power, abusing that power over them and I think a lot of people really want to see her succeed."
The Lisbeth Salander books have sold tens of millions of copies in more than 40 countries. Author Stieg Larsson, who died of a heart attack in 2004 at age 50, never saw the global sensation of his novels.
"The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" opens in theaters in the United States on December 21.
