Over the weekend, some of the best Chinese-language filmmakers gathered in Taiwan to honor the past year's best films. Here's a look at the winners of the star studded event.

The 48th annual Golden Horse awards were held Saturday in the Taiwanese city of Hsinchu (PRON shin-choo)—a change of venue for the awards which are usually set in Taipei.

But as always the ceremonies brought together the best and brightest of the Chinese-language film industry, along with their films.

This year's awards were swept by the Hong Kong film "A Simple Life". The dramatic entry garnered prizes for best director, actor, and actress, going to Ann Hui, Andy Lau, and Deannie Ip, respectively.

[Ann Hui, Director of "A Simple Life"]:
"I am very happy. I did not expect to take home an award tonight. I am very relieved that we won an award for the movie, since we came in a large group today. So it is good to take an award home with us."

The coveted best film award, however, went to Taiwan's celebrated—and controversial—historical feature "Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale", which touches on of the bloodiest episodes in the island's colonial history.
