WARNING: VIDEO CONTAINS GRAPHIC CONTENT OF ANIMALS BEING BUTCHERED
Muslims in Bangladesh gather at Dhaka's main mosque to take part in morning prayers celebrating Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice.
Worshippers spill onto the streets outside Baitul Mukarram - and thousands more must wait their turn to join in prayers.
In total, five prayer congregations were scheduled Monday to accommodate the crowds.
(SOUNDBITE) (Bengali) DHAKA RESIDENT MIR FAKHRUDDIN, SAYING:
"We just joined the Eid prayers and are now going to sacrifice animals in the name of God, and will distribute the meat to our relatives, friends and to the poor, to share the joy."
Muslims around the world celebrate by slaughtering sheep, goats, cows and camels to commemorate Prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail on God's command.
The festival is a public holiday in Bangladesh, and few are excluded - special meals will be served at orphanages and even prisons.
