The aftermath of one suicide car-bombing that killed at least four people in Baghdad.
This attack targeted a police station in the northwest of the Iraqi capital, leaving a large blast crater.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) LIEUTENANT SAJJAD, A WITNESS:
"We were on our way to work when we heard an explosion. The blast was caused by a truck, a suicide bomber with a truck targeted the police building and policemen. The driver smashed through the checkpoint and the car exploded when it hit a concrete barrier. A fuel tanker also exploded causing a very big blast."
The bombing was one of numerous attacks against the police and army on Wednesday, killing at least 23 people and wounding dozens of others.
In the central Alwiya district, another bomber rammed an explosives-filled car into a police station, killing at least 13 people.
And in the southern Ilaam district, a car bomb targeted a police patrol, killing at least three.
Roadside bombs aimed at army and police patrols in the capital also claimed at least three more lives.
The wave of apparently coordinated bombings underscores the ability of insurgents to hit multiple targets in Baghdad, despite security improvements and a fall in violence as U.S. troops prepare to withdraw by the end of this year.
