Aygül Özkan's parents were guest workers from Turkey and she's the first person with a Turkish background to become a minister in a regional government. A trained lawyer, she joined the Christian Democrats in 2004 and was soon climbing its ranks. Her political priority is to see people with immigrant backgrounds assimilated into German society and she's frequently made headlines with some unexpected opinions.
