Exotic Pets - Bennett's Wallaby - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. This is a Bennett`s Wallaby. This is a little female. She is about, almost a year old now. Very gentle, very fun animals. They come from Australia. In Australia they are found mostly on the island of Tasmania. Very, very powerful claws, very long legs. We basically treat these kind of like a dog. They do very, very well indoor/outdoor situations. It is better not to have them hopping around your house as they tend to knock over things on the coffee table. We recommend that they be set up in a nice roomy backyard or a very large pen that would be heated in the winter, and possibly cooled in the summer if you come from a very hot place. They eat prepared food called kangaroo food or Happy Hopper food. It is specially formulated for wallabies and kangaroos. They also like sweet potatoes and greens and veggies, and they do very very very well in captivity if set up properly. As you can see, they are quite gentle and quite tame. They are not as smart as a dog but they will come to you sometimes when you call them, if they are in the mood. Usually they just hang around an awful lot. Ours at home plays with our dog, and they get along pretty well. They are also very good swimmers. They will jump in the pool and do a couple of laps. They are very easy to keep, very gentle and quite fun. It is almost like having just a really dumb dog in your house. If you have got the right sized property for them and the time to spend with them, they make fantastic pets.
