Dress Etiquette for a Business Meeting - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. When attending a business meeting, your appearance is key. Not only in how you deliver yourself, but the first thing that someone is going to notice about you is how you look. This does not mean that you have to be in the latest fashions, but you do need to be neat, tidy and clean and your items need to be freshly pressed. For ladies, make sure that you are not wearing something that is too short, or too low-cut. The focus needs to be on your eyes and what you are presenting, not on an inappropriate part of your body. For ladies, also make sure that you are not wearing a lot of jewellery that is going to make a lot of noise. Too many bangles, too many rings, long earrings is a distraction. Too high of a heel, that will also take away from your professionalism. This does not mean that you have to wear shoes. This does not mean that you have to wear suits at all times, but make sure that you are again pulled together and it comes in a complete professional package. Gentlemen, make sure that you always have your hair trimmed. This is not necessarily attire, but it does make the entire package. Some of the things that you need to be conscientious of is your shoes. Shoes and belts do not necessarily have to match as long as they are instilling both in a light color or dark color, but your shoes do need to be polished. And pay attention to your belts, they do wear out quickly. The notch of the belt, make sure that it is not bent and that the inside of the belt is showing through. If it is too wore, just pitch it. Belts are a dime-a-dozen, so make sure that your fresh ones are always hanging in the closet, ready to go. Again, we need to make sure that everything is nicely pressed and that you have a tie that is up to date. Something too thin or too thick will outdate your entire outfit. One of my pet peeves is if you are wearing an open collared shirt, make sure you wear a V-necked undershirt. Nothing worse than seeing a white collar of a undershirt coming through in a nice dress shirt on a gentleman. Those are just a few tips on putting your best foot forward and making your appearance shine.
