It's been 11 years since the kidnapping and murder of Ukrainian journalist Georgy Gongadze and the investigation into the slaying is still ongoing. Journalists gather in central Kyiv to demand that investigators find and punish the murderer.

On Friday, hundreds of demonstrators gathered in the central square in Kyiv to commemorate Georgy Gongadze.

Georgy Gongadze, a critic of ex-President Leonid Kuchma, disappeared on September 16, 2000.

Six weeks later his body was found decapitated in a forest outside Kyiv.

They're demanding a complete investigation of the murder, and to find and punish the perpetrator.

This murder sparked a campaign of protests known as "Ukraine without Kuchma." They then gave rise to the Orange Revolution.

[Roman Romanov, Human Rights Activist]:
"After this [crime] those who knew but did not speak began to do so. I think that the Gongadze case was a landmark in many processes in Ukraine. I very much hope that these changes are irreversible, no matter who wants to turn them back."

Holding candles and a poster with the message "George, we have not forgotten", the protesters march to the Presidential Administration.

The main suspect in the murder of Gongadze is Former Ukrainian police general Alexey Pukach, who pleaded guilty.

At the same time, he accused former President Leonid Kuchma and other government officials of ordering the murder.

In March, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine brought charges against ex-President Leonid Kuchma of abuse of power, resulting in the death of journalist Georgy Gongadze.

Kuchma denies the allegations.
