Following last November's Shanghai fire, one victim is questioning where millions of dollars of donations have gone to help people affected. Over 90% of the money is unaccounted for... leaving some to suspect corrupt officials may be to blame.

Since late last year, more than 7-million US dollars were donated to the victims of the Shanghai fire. However, a letter shows they've received less than one-tenth of that sum. Some suspect corrupt authorities have embezzled the money.

The fire burned through a 28-story building on November 15th in 2010. One of the survivors, Wang Hong, led 21 others to send an open letter to the Shanghai local government, requesting the donation information be made public. The letter documented the sum of about 45-million yuan from newspapers and other charity organizations, but stated victims only received four-million yuan.

The Jinan branch of the Shanghai Charity Foundation said 28 out of 55-million yuan received had already been distributed. But, this did not convince critics who wondered why an itemized list could not be made public.

Wang alleges that the money has been embezzled. This wouldn't be the first time Chinese communist officials have misappropriated money from charity. Back in June, Guo Meimei was heavily criticized for flaunting her lavish lifestyle at the expense of charity money given to the Chinese Red Cross.
