Common Kitchen Organization Mistakes - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Hi, I am Marla Mendelsohn from Cook Ease and I would like to talk to you today about some common mistakes people make in organizing their kitchen. Some people think the kitchen should just look beautiful, and they do not think about where anything is, they do not think about the organization of it, and they just get carried away with how beautiful their kitchen is. Another thing that people do is they keep too many gadgets, too many pieces of unused equipment that you will use once a year. And that can become really a source of clutter. Another problem that people make is that they do not think about how to organize the space as a whole. So you need to step back and think about those things. So rather than think about what we all sort of do all the time, I want to think about how to fix those problems. So the first thing you need to do, is you need to think about how you want to use the space. And once you have thought about that, then you think about how to optimize the space, and how to organize things in that space. So for example, if you have a dishwasher, you want to think about putting the things that go in the dishwasher most frequently near the dishwasher. So your plates, your glasses, your silverware should go near the dishwasher. What would you put near the stove? That is pretty obvious: you would put your pots, your pans, your potholders, your cooking utensils all near the stove so that it has got easy access. As far as organizing yourself, you want to put things that are similar and similarly-used items together. So put all of your baking things together. Your measuring cups, measuring spoons, pastry scrapers, spatulas, all that in one area as opposed to all your pots and pans in another area. So get yourself organized with sort of thematic items together. And then the last thing that I want you to think about is how to optimize the space. So if you have old stuff or infrequently used stuff, either get rid of it, it is just taking up extra space, or put it in an area that is less convenient, that is not your everyday within-reach kind of space. And if you do all of those things - you think about what you have got, think about how to use the space, you organize yourself, and you optimize what you have got — you will have a beautiful kitchen.
