Auto Talk 101: Troubleshooting Multiple Ignition Tries - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. If you try to start your car and it will not start, there are a number of possiblities depending upon what happens when you try. Firsly, if you put your key into igntion and turn it and you get no response whatsoever or a single click, it might be that your starter is trying to fail. Secondarily, if you put your key into ignition and you get repeated clicks, I call it "machine gun" clicks, it might be low battery voltage either caused by a bad battery or an alternator that is not maintaining the charge on your battery. Furthermore, if you turn the car and you get nice healthy crank, it could be a fuel system problem. So if your car does not start and you are comfortable dealing with a battery, you might be able to take that battery out and take it to your local parts store and have them test it for you. That could be a simple solution. If that does not solve the issue, if that is not the issue, you are going to be calling your tow company to have your car towed to a local repair shop.
