A traveling puppet theater is charming Lithuanian children in many villages this summer. The horse-drawn show brings stories alive on a pop-up stage. It's the only traveling puppet theater in Lithuania and Europe today.

Every summer, a horse-drawn carriage sets off through Lithuania's countryside.

Everywhere the carriage goes on its long journey, local children welcome it.

The carriage is a traveling puppet theatre. And it's the only one in Lithuania and in Europe.

This travelling theater was started 25 years ago, by Antanas Markuckis. He is also the current director.

It takes seven artists and half-an-hour to set up the carriage into a stage, and to make an improvised hall in the village center.

But unlike other theatres, this one is always packed. Some say it's because tickets are sold at just 2 litas, or 0.58 euros.

The theater's repertoire includes all-time favorites, like fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen and Charles Perrault.

The theater also performs plays by Lithuanian authors.

Every season brings a new show.

[Justina Kausakiene, Village Resident and Spectator]:
"I think it is great that they are here and I am happy to be able to bring all my three children here - they are sitting in the first row. It's very nice of the artists to come here and to cheer us up."

[Nojus Drizys, 12-Year-Old Spectator]:
"It is the first time I watch a theater performance this year and I really enjoyed it."

[Dzeirana Petraviciute, 11-year-old spectator]:
"I liked it, because they came with horses and they can perform so well with puppets ."

This year, the theater travels 185 miles (300 kilometres) and gives 26 performances over 12 days, starting on the 6th July.

The rest of the year will be spent in the theater in Panevezys.
