Alex Merced introduces his idea for tax reform known as "The Progress Tax" which is a tax system built to appeal to all parts of the political spectrum.

Key Points:

Simplifies Taxation - By replacing the current income tax with a 15% flat tax on all incomes over $100,000 it reduces the tax burden for a large part of the population and simplifies and increases transparency for the rest.

Social Outreach - By replacing most government department with a single "Social Transparency" department with providing transparency of approved charities who's donations can be used to reduce income and estate tax bills.

This is a not a perfect solution, but possibly a politically viable one.
