Take a tour of Rapallo Castle in Rapallo, Italy - part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.

The castle off the coast of Rapallo, Italy is considered a national treasure and a symbol of the city in which it resides.

This ancient fortification in the sea was built in 1551 to guard the city.

An attack by Turkish pirates two years earlier incited the locals to construct this protective structure.

The city itself is the largest town on the Italian Riviera, in the Liguria region of the northern Italy.

At the time of its construction the castle had only a dungeon and firing station, later, in the 17th century, another floor, captain’s apartment, and tower were added.

The castle’s foundation also includes a small 17th century chapel dedicated to the patron saint of good fortune.
