Although Costa Rica only covers 0.003% of the planet’s land, it is home to 5% of the world’s animal and plant species. That diversity has come under increasing threat due to the disappearance of its forests.Just a few decades some 70 percent of the land was covered in forests - a figure that has since decreased to 40 percent. This has also taken its toll on the climate in some regions. There has been a decrease in rainfall, while the soil dries up and the groundwater level recedes. Now rangers are making an effort to achieve large-scale reforestation.
