Take a tour of Sights of Panama in Panama – part of the World’s Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Perhaps the most important city in the world for maritime travel and trade is Panama City.
It is the national capital, the largest city in the country, and home to the famous Panama Canal.
The original city was founded by Spanish conquistadors in 1519 as one of the first landing places on their expedition.
However, that city burned to the ground in 1671 during a pirate raid by Henry Morgan.
The current Panama City was rebuilt two years later, several miles away from its old location.
The ruins of Old Panama still exist, though, and are frequently visited by travelers to the city.
