South Korean environmentalists held a protest in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul. They're protesting against Japan''s dumping of radioactive water into sea and urged the Japanese government to hold talks with South Korea on the issue.
On Friday, South Korean environmentalists protested in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul... against the dumping of radioactive water by Japan.
Japan has dumped radioactive water out to sea as a relief measure for the stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.
Protesters urged the Japanese government to hold talks with South Korea over nuclear issues.
[Kim Jong-nam, Korea Federation for Environmental Movements]:
"We are here to protest against Japan's intentional dumping of radioactive water out to sea without consulting with our government. We urge the Japanese government not to do it again."
Anti-nuclear power activists in South Korea have been demonstrating since the atomic crisis in Fukushima sparked fears of radiation contamination in the air, water and food.
Japan had acknowledged it could have given more information to neighboring countries about contamination in the ocean.
Despite the breakthrough in plugging the leak at the plant, engineers still need to pump 11,500 tons of contaminated water back into the ocean, because they had run out of storage space at the facility.
