The prime minister of Thailand is on a day-long visit to New Delhi to boost bilateral ties. While there, he'll meet with the Indian prime minister, discussing a range of issues, focusing on trade and security ties.

Thailand Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva is on a day-long visit to India on Tuesday to boost bilateral ties.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ceremonially welcomed him at the Presidential Palace in New Delhi.

The two discussed a wide range of issues, focusing on trade and security ties.

[Abhisit Vejjajiva, Thai Prime Minister]:
"I am very pleased to be here today. India and Thailand are important strategic partners. We have enjoyed close and cordial relations for a long time, but I am here to strengthen that relationship. We look forward to discussion how we can energize various bilateral mechanisms that we have. Put an aim to tapping to great potential as far as trade, investment and tourism and other areas, as well as cooperating to meet the challenges on security matters."

Indian-Thai bilateral trade has grown six times in the last ten years. In 2010, it was valued at $6.6 billion.

The two ministers will also discuss culture, tourism, education and other areas, as part of their talks.
