Take a tour of Commerce Square of Lisbon in Portugal – part of the World’s Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. Lisbon, Portugal is a wonderful city, with bright, lovely weather and a seaside location. But in 1755, this city was a disaster scene after suffering an earthquake, tsunami, and then fire. Most of Lisbon was destroyed including its Palace and the Palace Square. The square was rebuilt and redesigned without the palace and given the name of Commerce Square. This elegant "U"-shaped building wraps around the square, its ground floors and long galleries. The Arch of Triumph connects Augusta Street to the square and looks out towards the Tagus. Mounted here is a statue of the monarch who led Lisbon through disaster and rebuilt the square.
