Take a tour of German Corner in Koblenz, Germany – part of the World’s Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.

In the scenic city of Koblenz, Germany is a striking promontory at the convergence of the major rivers, Rhine and Moselle.

The Deutsches Eck, or German Corner, displays the reconstructed statue of German Emperor Wilhelm I.

Architect Bruno Schmitz created the statue in 1897, celebrating the German Empire's re-foundation.

The statue has led a dramatic life, erected in 1897, then severely damaged in 1945 by American troops, and finally reconstructed in 1993 after much debate.

Because of the political turmoil of the mid 20th century, pieces of the Berlin Wall are now showcased to honor German re-unification.

Koblenz, a town over two thousand years old, hosts many historical structures, the German Corner being one of its most magnificent jewels.
