Japan's Mount Kirishima volcano continues to erupt on the southern island of Kyushu. The eruptions are predicted to continue for another year.

Japan's Mount Kirishima volcano erupted for the fifth and sixth time late on Tuesday and early Wednesday.

Japan's meteorological agency kept the alert level at 3 out of 5, and expanded the off-limit area to a two-and-a-half mile radius from the crater.

The Shinmoe peak of Mount Kirishima has been spewing hot ash and rocks across several cities and townships of the southern Japanese island of Kyushu since January 27.

According to Japanese broadcaster NHK, the eruption on Tuesday sent shockwaves that shattered windows in homes and buildings in southern Japan, leaving one person injured.

Shinmoe is one of several active volcano peaks within the expansive Kirishima mountain range on the southern Japanese island of Kyushu.

Some analysts predict the eruptions may continue for another year.
