Liverpool have finally agreed a fee with Chelsea for the sale of striker Fernando Torres after days of speculation about the transfer.

The fee has not been disclosed but is believed to be a British transfer record of £50million.

Torres, 26, has now been given permission to speak to the Stamford Bridge club and undergo a medical.

Earlier, Liverpool had a club-record bid for Newcastle striker Andy Carroll accepted by the north-east club.

The figure is believed to be in the region of £35 million after an earlier bid of £30 million was turned down.

"Liverpool FC confirmed this afternoon that Newcastle United had accepted a club-record offer for the transfer of Andy Carroll," the Anfield club in a statement.

The Reds have already all but completed the signing of Uruguay forward Luis Suarez, whose £23 million move from Ajax is set to be rubber-stamped.

They were also at the centre of the first major piece of transfer business on Monday when the end of Paul Konchesky's unhappy spell at Anfield was heralded by a loan move to Nottingham Forest.
