A life-saving flood for Messina... Here is one of the rare baroque musical accounts of this Sicilian town, which has known many earthquakes and tidal waves. The subject is furthermore symbolic; the four elements plead to God for man's destruction, death intervenes in his favour, man will know 'only' the flood and will finally be saved from the waters.
In the tradition of Carissimi and Handel, the highly original music reflects Sicily, a hybrid land known for having combined the songs of East and West. One can think of no better interpreter than Leonardo García Alarcón to translate here its intensity and emotion.
