Relatives of the building collapse victims in New Delhi accused the government on Wednesday of negligence and criticized their delay in rescue operations.

According to victims' relatives, many people are still trapped in the debris of the 5-story residential building, which collapsed on Monday, killing at least 66 people.

Angry relatives expressed their distress and helplessness to save their family members who were still alive under the rubble.

[Parvati Haldar, Victim's Relative]:
"People are still stuck inside the rubble, and they are not allowing the public to go there. What is the government doing? Nothing at all! And the policemen are not allowing us to go there either! We are getting phone calls from people in the debris asking for help and rescue! We are not getting any help from the policemen!"

Victims' relatives say that many lives could have been saved if the government had acted more responsibly and hastened rescue operations.

Ram Singh lost two relatives in the collapse and has other family members missing.

[Ram Singh, Relative of Two Victims]:
"There is no work or action being taken to save our relatives who are still in the debris. There is no bulldozer or any help from the government. Where is everybody? They are making a drama here by saying they will work at night and not in the day. We are also hearing about the stealing of dead bodies. They are neither doing anything nor letting the public be of any help. You can see for yourself that not even 2 cents worth of work has been done here. Why aren't they working? I want an answer from the government. Nothing is happening! They are not allowing us to even touch anything!"

Fire brigades and ambulances struggled to reach the site of the building collapse, due to the narrow winding lanes of the residential area.
