Germany's 42 shipyards have fallen on hard times in recent years. Shipmakers are struggling to keep up with strong competition from their counterparts in Asia. Some German builders have started to produce specialized ships as a way to stay in the game.The Meyer-Werft shipyard in northern Germany realized early it would have to diversify its business to keep up with the competition. So the builders there started producing modern cruise ships – and it worked. The luxury industry is booming, and that means 2,500 jobs on the shipyard are safe. Report by Manuel Özcerkes.
