Macau casino resort, City of Dreams, has premiered the world's largest water-based show.
'The House of Dancing Water', which opens to the public on Friday, has a cast of 77 international performers and approximately 130 production and technical members, including divers, from more than 18 countries around the world.
The show incorporates dazzling costumes, cutting-edge audio and visual special affects, staged at the purpose built 'Dancing Water Theater'.
The venue is one of the largest water-based theaters in the world, holding approximately 3.7 million gallons, more than five Olympic-sized swimming pools.
"I think the hope is to create a dazzling, spectacular show. Hopefully a love story that will come across and people will be touched by it. And we hope to show one of the most unique shows in human performance the world over," said lead performer, Jesko Von den Steinen.
'The House of Dancing Water' is an epic love story set in a kingdom where magic reigns and where love triumphs over hate. The company behind it hopes the glitzy extravaganza will bolster its business mix beyond hardcore gambling to encompass more family-based entertainment and leisure.
Mr. Lawrence Ho, Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Melco Crown Entertainment Limited said: "The House of Dancing Water show at the City of Dreams is probably one of the most ambitious entertainment undertakings ever done anywhere in the world. It comes with a budget of $250 million and we did spend over five years of planning, even rehearsals alone took two years."
The City of Dreams opened last June on Macau's Cotai Strip, a dusty stretch of reclaimed land developers are promoting as Asia's answer to Las Vegas' neon alley.
