George Michael has reportedly been in tears, after finding out he was going to jail.

The pop star was sentenced on Tuesday at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court to eight weeks in prison for crashing his car into a corner shop.

Michael, who attended the hearing appeared composed as the sentence was read out to him, but this was apparently a different story in the court's lock-up cell later

Richard Hayes, who was there for a speeding charge, said: "He didn't know what to do. He was in pieces. He kept repeating, 'I can't believe this has happened to me.' He was crying his eyes out, he was sobbing. He was like a little boy."

Despite being sentenced to eight weeks, the pop star was told he would serve four weeks in prison and spend the remainder on licence. Michael was also banned from driving for five years and was ordered to pay a £1,250 fine, £100 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Michael's jail sentence is the culmination of a long line of clashes with the law for the singer, who has been open about his use of cannabis and has claimed in the past that he was trying to cut down.
