Residents in Plymouth have called for the city council to remove huge trees from a neighbour's front garden because they are too tall.

An argument has erupted over the line of 10m (35ft) leyland cypress trees outside the home of David Alvand, which engulf his entire front garden and tower above his semi-detached home.

It is not yet known whether they cause damage underground.

The council said it was hoping further mediation would resolve the dispute before its tree officers visited the street to see if action was necessary.

Mr Alvand, 66, who was nearly jailed in 2003 after he built a 3.7m (12ft) concrete wall in his back garden, said he was the victim of a 'vendetta'.
