The recent surge of violence in Indian Kashmir has prompted the local government to enforce a strict curfew. Normal life is affected as locals are forced to co-operate with the authorities.
Several areas in the Kashmir valley have been put under curfew on Wednesday after a fresh bout of violence began in the region some days ago.

"You are aware that the curfew has been in place for the last few days, so accordingly, whatever restrictions are supposed to be enforced would be applicable here."

Large numbers of police and paramilitary forces have been deployed across the state capital of Srinagar, along with ten districts.

Shops remain closed and roads were deserted, except for security personnel patrolling the area.

Police officials have warned locals of severe action if they do not adhere to the curfew restrictions.

"The CRPF has always practiced maximum restraint. CRPF soldiers are exercising restraint. We fire only if it is extremely necessary, like in self-defense, or an attack on a security camp. You must have witnessed attacks on police stations; mobs have burnt police stations, in such cases one or two rounds are fired. We have not fired anywhere for mob dispersal."

Sources say 28 people have been killed and around 200 injured in clashes between the irate mobs and security personnel in the last few days.
