The Dalai Lama termed Moore his hero and thanked him for paying a visit to Dharamsala.
[Dalai Lama, Tibetan Spiritual Leader]: (English)
"I expressed my wish that one day you will visit my place here. Now that request, that wish which is enhanced…very, very happy, thank you…Yes, see in spite of some difficulties and inconvenience, you out of your own feeling and out of deep feelings of friendship, you came out here, thank you very much."
At the age of 10, Moore was blinded by a rubber bullet fired by a British soldier. He later forgave the soldier and the two became friends.
The Dalai Lama said that future generations would draw inspiration from Moore.
[Dalai Lama, Tibetan Spiritual Leader]: (English)
"It is my hope that the spirit of forgiveness and compassion you have revealed can be passed on from generation to generation."
Moore was accompanied to Dharamsala by the British soldier who had shot him back in 1972 in Ireland.
Moore is involved in humanitarian services to help children around the world who, like him, and have been caught in the crossfire of violence, poverty and hunger.
