Gordon Brown appealed to disenchanted Labour voters to "come home" to the party on Tuesday night as the General Election entered its final 48 hours.

At a campaign rally in Manchester, the Prime Minister urged those who have turned away from the party since 1997 to return to the fold.

He was addressing hundreds of Labour activists at Granada Studios, scene of the first televised leaders' debate three weeks ago.

In a upbeat speech designed to energise Labour's support with just one day's campaigning left to go, Mr Brown concentrated his message on the millions of undecided voters he believes can still return him to Number 10.

"I want to say to those who have decided to support us, thank you - now persuade the undecided among your families, your friends, your colleagues," he said.

"And I want to say to those who have yet to decide, listen to what we have to say. When the last 48 hours of this campaign has passed, in that one minute in the polling booth vote for the kind of country you believe in, and come home to Labour."
