De Gaulle makes his call to the French

As the French armed forces fold before the onslaught of the German army, newly appointed general, Charles de Gaulle, flies to London to request military aid from Churchill.
When he learns that Maréchal Pétain has asked Hitler for German peace terms, de Gaulle decides to make a call for resistance.
But it takes 24 hours of constant negotiation with Britain's leaders for de Gaulle to receive permission to make his BBC broadcast.

Until then largely unknown to the French public, the general suddenly dons the mantle of a figure of legend.
