Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson and Keanu Reeves were among the Hollywood A-listers who put on a special production of "Much Ado About Nothing" for the "Simply Shakespeare" fundraiser in LA.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the show which is traditionally co-chaired each year by Tom Hanks and his wife.

The Saving Private Ryan star said their version of the classic play is unique: "We go off page. Jackson Browne is singing Jackson Browne songs in this production about 'Much Ado About Nothing.' You know, if I was going to say in the classical realm, this is sort of like we imagine that the entire audience is the Groundlings, back at the Globe Theatre.

We play to the Groundlings throughout. We leave the romance and the cloudbursts and the deus ex machina to other companies. Here, it is one night only. We fly by the seat of our Shakespearean pantalones."

The proceeds from the night helped raise money and awareness for the work of the Shakespeare Center, Los Angeles.

Keanue Reeves said he was enjoying being part of the event: "It is my first time here. And it has been a really great day. You know, it's been kind of playful and everyone is getting along and hopefully we will put on a good show."

The special production also featured Julia Roberts and Ewan McGregor.
