Phil drags Sam by the arm to Mel's. Phil shows Mel the card from Steve that arrived in the morning. Phil forces a crying Sam to tell Mel the story about the hotel. He dismisses Sam and shows Mel the words on the card - Steve just slept with Sam to get back at Phil. He says he didn't kill Steve, but he really wishes he had.
