A landmark in Detroit, Lafayette Coney Island is renowned as one of the area's best Coney Islands. The menu is simple, chili-dogs, with or without raw onions, a loose meat hamburger or a bowl of chili, with or without beans, and fries. The first Coney Islands were started by Gust Keros and his brother William, who got into an argument quite soon after and split their restaurant into two parts- Lafayette and American Coney Islands which are next door to each other, and who to this day argue about which is the "original." The two have remained side by side for the past 70 years and are still owned by third generation family members.
