The Iranian government has cracked down on its opposition after a massive anti-government protest turned deadly over the weekend.

With heavy media restrictions imposed in the country, protestors there have turned to the Internet to have their voices heard.

Now those voices are being echoed by another group of people who say they are living under an oppressive regime—the Chinese Communist Party.

Social networking website Twitter has seen a surge of postings with the hashtag, #CN4Iran. It became one of Twitter’s top trending topics. Chinese Twitter users are using the hashtag #CN4Iran in messages to show support for the Iranian protestors. Others are using it to voice their own struggles for freedom.

Chinese Twitterer “baiwuya” says, “Why are we paying attention to Iran? Because we feel the suffocation that comes from our freedom and humanity being taken away.”

Twitter is currently blocked in China by the communist regime. But users there are using proxy servers and anti-censorship software to get around the ban.
