France's star chefs have made the sea salt from Brittany world famous. It's harvested by hand, not refined. and contains no chemcial additives. But recent years haven't been kind to salt farmers. After two bad harvests, they're counting on this year being a success. Lucky for them, the weather is cooperating this year - the sun is shining and it's not raining very much. Those are good conditions for the traditional production methods, allowing the brine to flow from basin to basin as it has for more than 1,500 years. In the 1970s,the future of Brittany's salt business hung in the balance. But a handfull of hippies jumped in to save the tradition and they now run the business as a co-operative.
