Erling Haaland's golden touch at the start of the season briefly deserted him as the Man City star missed a penalty and a retaken spot in Norway's key World Cup qualifier - before making amends with a superb hat-trick.

Haaland has been in lethal form so far this season, with the forward having scored in all but one match he has featured in to date.

Heading into Norway's clash against Israel, Haaland had scored 13 goals in his last 10 appearances.

He appeared poised to add to the tally when Norway were awarded a third-minute penalty, after Patrick Berg was fouled in the box by Dan Biton.

Haaland sent his first effort low to the goalkeeper's right, but Daniel Peretz guessed correctly and palmed the ball away to safety.

The forward was given a second chance from the spot when it was revealed that Peretz had come off his line too early.

Haaland stepped up for the second time and was again denied by Peretz, who correctly dived to his left-hand side and pushed away the Norwegian's effort.

The 25-year-old's blushes were quickly spared as Norway took an 18th-minute lead against Israel through an Anan Khalaili own goal.

Haaland did not take long, either, to put his misses from the spot behind him and get on the scoresheet again.

The forward sprinted onto a through ball from Alexander Sorloth in the 26th minute and drove towards the Israeli goal.

Haaland expertly shifted the ball from his left foot to his right before steering a low effort into the bottom corner to double Norway's advantage.

The effort saw Haaland score for the 10th consecutive match, representing club and country.

Tottenham were the last, and only, team to stop Haaland scoring this season in their 2-0 victory over Man City back in August.

Norway was celebrating again almost immediately after Haaland had put them 2-0 ahead.
