ఇప్పటివరకు 14 మంది ఉపరాష్ట్రపతులుగా సేవలందించారు. రాధాకృష్ణన్‌ 15వ వ్యక్తి అవుతారు. డాక్టర్‌ సర్వేపల్లి రాధాకృష్ణన్‌ (13.5.1952 నుంచి 13.5.1962), మహమ్మద్‌ హమీద్‌అన్సారీ (11.08.2007 నుంచి 11.08.2017)లు అత్యధికంగా పదేళ్లు చొప్పున ఈ పదవిలో కొనసాగారు. అత్యల్పకాలం వీవీగిరి (1 సంవత్సరం 355 రోజులు), ఆర్‌.వెంకటరామన్‌ (2 ఏళ్ల 327) ఉన్నారు. వీరిద్దరూ తర్వాత రాష్ట్రపతులు అయ్యారు. వేరే ఏ పదవీ లేకుండా, అకస్మాత్తుగా రాజీనామా చేసి, 2 ఏళ్ల 344 రోజులకే ఉపరాష్ట్రపతి పదవినుంచి వైదొలిగిన తొలివ్యక్తి జగదీప్‌ ధన్‌ఖడే. ఉపరాష్ట్రపతులుగా పనిచేసినవారిలో సర్వేపల్లి రాధాకృష్ణన్, జాకీర్‌హుస్సేన్, వి.వి.గిరి, ఆర్‌.వెంకటరామన్, శంకర్‌దయాళ్‌శర్మ, కె.ఆర్‌.నారాయణన్‌లు రాష్ట్రపతులు అయ్యారు. నారాయణన్‌ తర్వాత ఇప్పటివరకూ ఒక్క ఉపరాష్ట్రపతి కూడా రాష్ట్రపతి స్థానానికి చేరుకోలేకపోయారు.
