Violent clashes erupted on the streets in Nepal on 8 September against the government’s social media ban that quickly spiralled into a nationwide movement against corruption and lack of transparency. Violent clashes broke out across major cities, leaving streets in turmoil.

The scale of the uprising forced the resignation of Nepal’s Prime Minister, President, and Home Minister, marking one of the biggest political shake-ups in the country’s recent history.

By September 10, at least 22 people had lost their lives in the protests.
